1. How we collect information
International Solid Waste Association is a membership-based organization and owner of the Magazine and the respective online platform waste-management-world.com (hereinafter referred to as “Website”). The Magazine and Platform is published by WEKA who acts as a processor according to Article 28 of regulation (EU) 2016/679.
Therefore, ISWA collects data vital to managing the member database. ISWA also collects data used specifically for promotional purposes (Newsletter), access data for the member area of the Website and the data of subscription members, as well as website cookies to provide seamless website experience to the visitors of all the websites under ISWA brand. All data described in this privacy statement are shared with and maintained by WEKA based on the Data Processing Agreement dated June 12th, 2019 for the sole purpose of providing the services as described in this Agreement.
2. Types of personal data collected
ISWA currently collects for the Magazine and Website the following types of data:
- Subscription-Specific Data;
- Marketing-Specific Data;
- Website-Specific Data.
3. Subscription-specific data
As subscriber of the Magazine, you will be asked to provide
- name and surname;
- contact address;
- e-mail address and telephone number (jointly referred to as “Subscription-Specific Data”).
ISWA uses this data to provide you with the Magazine, maintain a database of subscribers and contact you in special cases. You will occasionally receive e-mails related to your subscription as well as notifications of benefits that come with your subscription, which include but are not limited to emails about events, discounts, updates on your subscription, opportunities etc.
3.1. How do we store this data?
Subscription-Specific Data at ISWA and WEKA are stored on systems managed by an external IT company, which acts as data processor and operates in agreement with data policies established by ISWA. ISWA makes sure that your data are stored and managed in accordance with the EU Data Protection laws and that any third party handling your data implements all technical measures necessary on an ongoing basis to keep your personal data secure.
3.2. How long do we store this data?
Inactive Subscription-Specific Data are stored for the period of 7 years, longer if data are subject to ongoing legal disputes. Active Subscription-Specific Data are maintained as long as the subscription is paid/actively renewed by subscribers.
4. Marketing-Specific Data
For receiving the Newsletter of Waste Management World you have to sign up for the member area of the Website (hereinafter referred to as “Member Area”). To sign up in the Member Area you will be obliged to provide your Email address. Moreover, you will be asked to provide following data optional: gender, name, surname, company’s name, business field and number of employees, position and remit, involved areas of the company. The Member Area offers to manage the newsletter subscriptions and for Magazine subscribers to maintain their Magazine subscription. Therefore, all data collected as Subscription-Specific Data and data collected as of the registration for the Member Area (for subscribing to the Newsletter) are jointly referred to as “Marketing-Specific Data”.
ISWA collects Marketing-Specific Data to send marketing mailings and the newsletter. To maintain your newsletter subscription sign-up or login to the Member Area.
4.1. How do we store this data?
ISWA marketing-specific data are stored and managed on MailChimp platform and by WEKA, which both act as data processor and operate in agreements with data policies established by ISWA.
4.2. How long do we store this data?
ISWA stores the data as long as you remain subscribed to the mailing list. Once you want to stop receiving the e-mails, use the 'Unsubscribe' link at the bottom of any ISWA or Waste Management World email to remove your email from the list. To delete your account from the Member Area (including all newsletter subscriptions), visit this page. Your e-mail will be stored in the system for the period of 40 months, after which it will be deleted. You will not be contacted again, unless you re-subscribe.
4.3. MailChimp
For providing our Newsletter ISWA use components from MailChimp. Mail Chimp is a service from The Rocket Science Group, LLC, 675 Ponce de Leon Ave NE, Suite 5000, Atlanta, GA 30318, USA (hereinafter referred to as „MailChimp“). The data provided by you as of your newsletter registration (e-mail address, name, IP address, date and time of your registration) are transferred to the servers of The Rocket Science Group in the USA and stored there under consideration of the "EU-US Privacy Shield". Supplementary thereto ISWA has concluded a data processing agreement with MailChimp. This is an agreement by which MailChimp is obliged to protect data of the users, processing data only according to the data protection regulations and not providing data to any third parties.
MailChimp uses the collected data for dispatching the Newsletter and for evaluating the Newsletter on ISWAs order. According to their own information MailChimp may use this data for optimisation and improvement of their own service for example for technical optimisation of dispatching the Newsletter or for economical reasons such as determining from which country the Newsletter members are. MailChimp does not use the data from Newsletter subscribers for contacting them on their own behalf or to proving their personal data to third parties.
The Newsletter contains a so called “web-beacon”, which is a pixelsized file, that is downloaded by the servers of MailChimp when opening the Newsletter. In connection with this request information regarding your browser, your operating system, your IP address as well as date and time of your request is collected. This information is used for technical improvement of the MailChimp Service by technical data, the target groups and their reading behaviour, the location where the request comes from (which is identifiable by the IP address) and the request times.
For statistical reasons data is also collected for determining whether the Newsletter has been opened, when the Newsletter has been opened and which links are clicked in the Newsletter. This information might be assigned for technical reasons to single Newsletter subscriber but it is neither the endeavour of ISWA nor from MailChimp to observe you. In the contrary thereto evaluations are only made to see your reading habits and to match the provided content according to your interests. In some cases, we will guide you to the websites of MailChimp. For example, if the Newsletter provides a link, which enables you to open the Newsletter online (for example in case of displaying problems caused by the e-mail client). Moreover, you may change your personal information such as your email address online. Also, the privacy statement of MailChimp is only available on their website. In connection therewith ISWA indicates, that MailChimp’s websites uses Cookies, and personal data is processed by MailChimp, their partners and their service providers (e.g. Google Analytics). ISWA does not have any influence in regard of collecting this data. More information may be found in the privacy statement of MailChimp
4.4. Special rights in regards to the Newsletter
You may at every time unsubscribe from the Newsletter by meaning of revoking the approval for receiving it. Thereby your approval of dispatching the Newsletter by MailChimp as well as for the statistical analysis is revoked. Unfortunately, it is not possible to revoke the approval for statistical analyses separately from the approval of receiving the newsletter. A link for unsubscribing from the Newsletter may be found at the end of each Newsletter.
5. Website-Specific Data
5.1. Use of Cookies
The Website uses cookies. These are small (text or image) files that are downloaded from your visits to the Website onto your computer and stored locally. They allow the Website and external service providers to store your activities and the number of your visits to the Website. The data that is stored by cookies helps ISWA and external service providers in offering you an even better online experience. First- or third-party cookies are used on the Website.
For the Website ISWA uses Cookies which are deleted after a browser session (Session Cookies) as well as cookies which are stored on the device that your browser is recognized at the next visit on the Website (Presist Cookies).
Please note that some cookies are already used when the Website is entered and cookies may also contain personal data. By accepting the cookie notification shown at your first visit on the Website you agree with the use and the processing of cookies according to this Agreement.

5.2. Third-Party Use
5.2.1. Google Analytics
The uses Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google Inc., 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA (hereinafter referred to as “Google”). Google Analytics uses cookies. The information generated by the cookie about your use of this Website, such as browser version/type, operating system, referrer URL, hostname and IP address, date and time of server request, gender, age as well as interests. is usually transmitted to a Google server in the USA and stored there. The IP address transferred by you will not be matched with other personal data. As the Website uses the code “anonymize IP” your IP address will be anonymized and therefore all data provided to Google were collected anonymous. Only in exceptional cases will the full IP address be transmitted to a server owned by Google in the USA and shortened there. On behalf of the operator of the Website Google will use this information to evaluate your use of the Web-site, compiling reports on website activity and providing other with website and internet related services to the website operator. The transmitted by your browser as part of Google Analytics IP address will not be merged with other data from Google! You may refuse the use of cookies by adjusting your browser software. However, in case of disabling cookies some features of this Website will stop working. 5.2.2. Youtube
For embedding videos, the Website uses the provider YouTube LLC , 901 Cherry Avenue, San Bruno, CA 94066, USA, represented by Google (hereinafter referred to as „Youtube“). In general, already by entering a site with embedded videos your IP-address is sent to Youtube and cookies will be installed on your computer. All videos on the Website were embedded with the extended data protection mode. Therefore, Youtube will be in contact with “Double Click”, which is another service from Google. According to the information provided by Youtube personal data will not be processed and Youtube does not safe any Information of Visitors of the Website, unless you start an embedded video. If you click on a video, your IP-address will be transferred to Youtube and Youtube gets informed that you have watched the video. If you are logged in at Youtube with an user account, this information will be associated to your user account. You may prevent Youtube of associating this information to your Youtube user account only if you log out from your Youtube user account prior of watching a video on the Website. If you are logged out from your user account, we are not aware whether Youtube collects and processes personal data from you. 5.2.3. Instagram
The Website uses features provided by the service Instagram, which is operated by Instagram LLC., 1601 Willow Road, Menlo Park, CA 94025, USA (hereinafter referred to as „Instagram“). The services which are embedded using the Instagram Plugin are marked with the Instagram camera logo. By entering a site with embedded features from Instagram, your server will set up a connection to the servers of Instagram. The content provided by Instagram will be directly transferred to your browser and embedded to the site. By providing content from Instagram, Instagram is informed about which sub-site you have entered on the Website even then if you do not have an Instagram user account or if you are not logged in to your Instagram user account. The information of the sub-site you visited as well as your IP-address is directly provided to a server of Instagram in the USA and stored there. If you are logged in to your Instagram user account the visit of the Website will be directly associated with your Instagram user account. If you interact with the content provided by Instagram, for example if you click the Instagram camera button, the information about your interactions will be also directly provided to the servers of Instagram and stored on it. 5.2.4. Pinpoll
On the Website we collect and analyse your data with Pinpoll from Pinpoll GmbH, 4020 Linz, Hopfengasse 3, Austria (hereinafter referred to as „Pinpoll“). Pinpoll provides software solutions which collect and analyze personal data of the Website users. The data collected and processed by Pinpoll is directly provided by you throughout optional polls on the Website. For example, this data might be: name, surname, address, birthday, e-mail address, gender, religious or philosophical beliefs, political beliefs or personal tastes. This data will only be processed if they are directly provided by you. Beside from that Pinpoll processes Website and personal data. Pinpoll makes available to us your personal data in connection with the poll results as well as in connection with data generated by the Pinpoll software. Pinpoll does only provide the personal data provided by the Website in anonymized form to third parties. 5.2.5. walls.io
For the presentation of social media content the Website uses the plugin walls.io from „Die Socialisten” Social Software Development GmbH, 1070 Wien, Andreasgasse 6, Top 1, Austria(hereinafter referred to as „walls.io“). By embedding walls.io on the Website information regarding the use of the Website as well as your IP-address is transferred to walls.io and stored there. We neither have detailed knowledge about the content of the transferred data nor the usage of this data by walls.io. Walls.io therefore may provide data to third parties. Especially by placing interactions in connection with the content embedded by walls.io while you are logged in on a social media service (e.g. Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, walls.io might provide data to the respective social media service, assign interactions to your social media profile or publish them there. Executing walls.io on our Website may be prohibited by deactivating Javascript in your browser. Therefore, the Website might not be available to its full extent and content is missing. 5.2.6. Yumpu
For digitally embedding our publications to the Website we use Yumpu-Services from imagazine AG, Gewerbestrasse 3, 9444 Diepoldsau, Switzerland (hereinafter referred to „Yumpu“). Yumpu enables us to publish content from PDF-files as catlouge/flipbook directly on your browser without downloading the PDF-files. Switzerland is approved to be a country with adequate data protection level by the Euro-pean Commission according to Art 45 GDPR. By using Yumpu essential cookies are set for providing the main functionality of the service. You may at every time prohibit the use of cookies by changing your cookie-settings. The procedure for the deactivation of cookies might differ from each browser. Your browser offers settings to deactivate special types of cookies or single cookies from being set. Moreover, you may set up your browser that you get notified every time when a cookie is sent. Therefore, you have to change your cookie preferences in your browser respectively. By using this function, you might change single browser settings manually each time you visit the Website. Moreover, single features and applications might not work correctly. Please note that also Yumpu uses Google Analytics from Google with IP anonymization. Moreover, Yumpu automatically collects and stores information in server log files, which your browser automatically transfers to Yumpu. Yumpu stores this information for a period of one month. This information is:
- Type of browser and version;
- Operating system;
- Referrer-URL;
- Requested IP;
- Time of server inquiry;
- IP-address.
A combination of these data with other data sources are not carried out. Processing this data is carried out as of Art. 6 para 1 lit. f GDPR, based on the legitimate interest on the improvement of the stability and functionality of the Website. Yumpu does neither transfer the data to third partys nor does it use this data for other purposes. 5.2.7. Facebook
The Website uses social plugins of the social network facebook.com from Facebook Inc., 1601 S. California Ave, Palo Alto, CA 94304, USA (hereinafter referred to as “Facebook”). These Plugins used by Facebook are identified with the Facebook-Logo and with the addition "Facebook Social Plugin" By entering one the sub-sites, which uses the Facebook plugin your browser will establish a direct connection to the servers of Facebook. The content shown by the Facebook plugin is directly provided from Facebook and embedded into the Website. By entering a sub site which has embedded the Facebook plugin, Facebook is informed that you entered the Website. If you are logged in to your Facebook account, your visit on the Website might be assigned to your Facebook account. If you interact with the Facebook plugin, for example by clicking the “Like” button, or by leaving a comment, the information of this interaction will be directly provided by your browser to Facebook and will be stored there. On the Website HTML codes from Playbuzz Ltd., 3 Aluf Kalman Magen St., Building A, 1st Floor, Tel Aviv, 6107075, Israel (hereinafter referred to as “Playbuzz”), are used. If you are entering a website which is using such HTML codes your browser will establish a direct connection to the servers of Playbuzz. 5.2.9. Twitter
The Website uses Twitter Plugins from Twitter Inc., 1355 Market St, Suite 900, San Francisco, CA 94103, USA (hereinafter referred to as „Twitter“). These plugins are identified with the Twitter logo (blue „twitter bird”). 5.2.10. Zendesk

5.2.11. SoundCloud
The Website is using plugins from SoundCloud Limited, D-10115 Berlin, Rheinsberger Str. 76/77, Deutschland (hereinafter referred to as „Soundcloud“) for podcats. 5.2.12. SurveyMonkey
The Website is using plugins from SurveyMonkey Europe UC, 2nd Floor, 2 Shelbourne Buildings, Shelbourne Road, Dublin, Ireland (hereinafter referred to as „Surveymonkey“), for publishing polls for the visitors. 6. Right to information and objection to the use of personal data and
You are entitled to request information about the data collected from you by ISWA and about the processed personal data to rectify mistakes. If you wish to have this information, please contact ISWA by sending an e-mail to iswa(at)iswa.org. You will be asked to send a copy of official ID or identify your ISWA Membership number before the request can be fulfilled.
Please note that in accordance with local regulations, ISWA stores membership data for up to 40 months to comply with audits and legal inquiries. The data is stored longer than 40 months in case of being subject to legal actions.
7. Right to revoke approval of personal data and deletion of stored data
If you do not want ISWA to collect personal information from you, you may revoke your consent at any time without giving reasons. This right can be – with reference to your concern – exercised by sending ISWA an e-mail and requesting data about you to be erased. Please contact ISWA by sending an e-mail to iswa(at)iswa.org.
You are entitled to request the cancellation and complete erasure of your personal data that ISWA has on file. Provided no official reason speaks against the cancellation, ISWA will delete the personal data stored within 14 days. Should there still be litigation pending at the time of your revocation, cancellation is made 14 days after the bilateral contract or resolution of the legal dispute. The revocation/cancellation request needs to be send via e-mail to iswa(at)iswa.org with the inclusion of a copy of official ID and, if available, your ISWA Membership number.
8. Data portability
At any given time you can request that your data collected by ISWA is transferred to another organization. Please note that ISWA can only provide CSV files. To request transfer of your data, please send an e-mail to iswa(at)iswa.org with the inclusion of a copy of official ID and, if available, your ISWA Membership number.
